I have TESOL, TEFL, Business English, and Teaching English to Young Learners certifications. I worked for over 22 years at the International Newcomer Center in our public school system. My department received families and students from around the world for educational grade level processing. My many roles included testing students to determine their English proficiency levels. We had a large influx of Spanish speaking foreign students. As a result, this influx necessitated using my Spanish skills to translate information from Spanish to English for families and staff. I also assisted our international staff with their English language needs. I have friends and family from a variety of cultural backgrounds, so I assist them when they have questions concerning the English language.
I speak Spanish and Hindi. I am currently learning Serbian. I appreciated the patience and encouragement my language instructors showed me. I feel that I can show the same qualities for students in my classroom.
I enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures. I have traveled to Amsterdam, Austria, Bahamas, Canada, Chile, Corsica, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Hawaii, Ireland, Korea, Laos, Mexico, Monaco, Puerto Rico, Spain, Thailand, and Venezuela. I have traveled to many other states in the U.S. I look forward to visiting other places in the future!
My other hobbies include, reading, writing poetry, and short stories. I enjoy a wide variety of music. And I play the piano.
I feel that the skills and experiences that I have developed over the years will be of great value to my students. I look forward to helping them on their journey to master the English language!
